My kid is not a good speller at all. Somewhere along the line, he didn't seem to get a good phonics background and you can tell this in his spelling. Since his grade level is one that puts a lot of emphasis on writing and because one of his teachers hammers him for spelling errors, we decided to give this a try.I have had him work on a lesson or two a week and then see what kind of words they were and randomly ask him how to spell some, especially the ones he missed on the little quizzes that are put after each section. I have noticed an improvement in his spelling, especially for common errors (and especially those rule breakers!) and we plan to finish the book before too long.I like that the book focuses on listing the rule and the rule breakers. It is important to know that rules aren't always hard and fast. The quizzes are short and it doesn't feel like a test. More of a check to make sure you got the information presented.
My husband, who is a brilliant guy but has never been a great speller, had me buy this for him. He loves it!
Very excited about this workbook!!! Highly recommend it to anyone even if it is just to brush up on spelling. I like the way the workbook is organized as the subject matter is easy to follow, builds upon one component to the next, comprehensive and quite fun!!! I would recommend it to anyone even if it is just for a quick brush up.

Spelling is the thing that always hurt me in writing and now that I am old I getting to learn to spell.
I loved Joanne's other books, and her website, so definitely had to get this. It's for both American and British English users. It's a practical book full of information and exercises. Some rules are easy, for example, adding -es to words, the y to i rule and adding -ly to words, but some take a bit more brainpower. As the book says, if you don't remember the rule at least you know why the spelling is the way it is, and maybe you'll remember the letter pattern and see what looks right. The one thing about her books is they're easy to understand and no jargon, unless absolutely necessary and that's why there's a useful section on key terms so if you're not sure what a noun, adjective or verb is then the book explains them. You can dip into the book and use it as a reference book or you can work your way through the book.
Understanding spelling rules is one of many great strategies to help you improve your spelling. Knowing spelling rules adds another layer to your spelling knowledge and helps you realise why there are 'strange' letter patterns and why spelling is the way it is. I’m always rooting for the underdog, in this case, based on the quality of this text, I’m assuming it’s a smaller publisher competing with the big publishers.Unfortunately, this book needed much editing before going to print. It’s hard to believe this is the second edition. There are glaring typos and inaccuracies throughout the book. I also wish the writing was clearer. It seems they went out of their way to avoid any semblance of plagiarism, but that made the book harder to read,I’ve used other resources to help me better understand this text. The online resources for this textbook have been good so far.
I rented this textbook for my daughter. I can't speak for the book itself, since I'm not in nursing school, but the process to rent textbooks was great. Very easy and extremely convenient.

Mrs. Elliott has dealt with discrimination better than anyone. The fact that she's an older White woman makes me respect her even more. Her BE/BE test is the closest thing to discrimination against minorities, women, gays and the elderly that I've ever seen. Does her test change peoples lives? I'd like to think it has changed some. As a Black man, she's made me look at some things differently. Mainly that you can't walk around saying "you don't see color", that's no realistic. Just as you see height, weight and other different characteristics, color is a difference in people. The issue is discriminating because of the color.Lastly, she says something that I've said for most of my life, "there's only one race, the HUMAN race".Thanks Mrs. Elliot

I mean how can you wage war against something you don't understand. It's like entering the battle field blindfolded and with cleaning utensils instead of swords and shields. But this is also a cure for people who don't give a crap about racism and discrimination. If you're a blue eye you are very likely to see this book as another reason why racism is wrong but if that's the case then you have missed the purpose of this book. The purpose is education. Education is the cure for ignorance. This is also a good book for brown eyes out there. This book reminds us that we're no better than the next human being and despite how society views us we should treat everyone with respect and kindness. In other words, proving society wrong is not hard when you do the right thing.
Overall the information is great and should be read by anyone wanting to really see the deeper issues with racism that gets written off because it's uncomfortable to visit. The reason I did not give this book 5 stars is because the book needs editing. Seemed a bit scattered in some parts, and the timeline was a bit hard to follow because this. Extraneous stuff needed to be ousted too (the seafood chapter, for example) recipes were distracting. I honestly don't understand the point Elliott was trying to make with the chapter, titled "Meeting Some Remarkable Muslims." The whole chapter seems a bit like she's bragging that she's embraced a Muslim son-in-law, even thought their culture is so patriarchal and she was afraid for her daughter. Seemed to go against what Elliott herself was trying to teach against. My opinion. Overall though, my take away as a biracial woman, this book hit some familiar, personal pain. It also brought to mind the different directions from which I experienced racism, and the odd experience of horizontal racism that both experienced and was practiced in my own home (especially her comment when questioned about her own blue eyes [paraphrased]: "I'm married to a brown eye, so that makes me a brown eye") goes on in non-white cultures stemming from the embedded belief in American and Western cultures that the pinnacle of human value lies in being white, heterosexual, and male. The problem overall is that we cannot seem to get past the color of skin, nor can our society get past the idea that it's not about being color-blind. We must as a species unlearn the hierarchy of color as human value and embrace and practice the concept of human value based on the fact that we are all human beings and should be treated with equal dignity and respect as well as practice this treatment toward others. Basic teaching of Jesus and Buddha...love one another unconditionally.
Every white person could gain understanding of what white privilege looks like by reading this book.Very courageous woman to have undertaken this effort to help us see where we have so many blind spots and misunderstandings about racism.Highly recommended.

She has managed to communicate, through exercise, some of the prejudice thoughts/treatments that are still far to common in our society. I'll never forget the first time that I saw BEBE. Can I get refund. Wasn’t good. If you’re into Bukowski and Michael Faudet, you won’t like this. It’s written for minors.
I was so excited to get my hands on the book yesterday and I spent the afternoon reading every line. I look forward to re-reading, softening the pages, and wearing the spine out for many days to come.Some complained about the poetry styles. I appreciate the modern, unstructured, non-traditional poetry written by the younger poets now. Words don't have to be cumbersome, lengthy, and overly complicated to be beautiful and meaningful. I have throughly enjoyed the messages without the hard traditional lines and lengths.Truly, the words on their own are impactful. However, the deliberate choices of fonts and images truely represent the tone of every indevidual poem.Thank you for writing this.

Some make me smile, some make me sad, and many feel precisely like what lies hidden inside but am too hesitant to voice. They make me feel and they make me think. Much of his work comprises of very short and simple love poems, but whether he fills an entire page or chooses only a pinch of words, there is a depth behind each thought. It’s difficult to review poetry since it is a poet’s truth and a particularly subjective medium, so all I can say is that I adore this collection and hope you might too.
This is the most beautiful book I own. I have an addiction to reading Atticus poetry on Instagram and now have these wonderful stories in the palm of my hands. Every page of this book is beautiful and makes me so excited to turn the page. This will be my favorite new gift to give to loved ones. Don't pass this book up I promise you will be pleased.
I normally wouldn’t waste my time returning something so cheap. However, because this “book†of “poems†is so incredibly terrible and I honestly don’t want someone to ever pick it up off of my bookshelf thinking it’s worthy of sitting besides works of real authors, I am. I wrote better poetry when I was 10 and had my first big crush one someone. I mean, I might have somewhat enjoyed it then, but I don’t see how anyone else could possibly call this anything but a waste of time & paper. I got through the first 150 pages in about 15 minutes and couldn’t even bring myself to get through the rest of this garbage. Idk if I had a glass of wine too many while reading the reviews or what tf happened but I somehow missed the only accurate ones- the ones that says it’s AWFUL. if I could give this zero stars I would.
Thought this would be good with all the hype online. My expectations were high and I was let down.
Atticus somehow captures an infinite amount of emotions in very few words. His poems are feelings I had in my heart but could never express. This book is full of warm fuzzies, heartbreaking passion, and endless love. It shows me how I want and deserve to be loved. This book could be read all in once or throughout time like his instagram posts and still have the same impact. I recommend this over and over to anyone that has loved, or been loved.
Beautiful pages for beautiful words. I love the construction and the originality of the illustrative element. The burst of poetry back into popular culture, often through social media, has been such an exciting development and Atticus brings a unique and eternally moving addition to that movement. Following his writing on instagram has been a pleasure and seeing those words put onto beautiful pages is so exciting. I've only begun to explore this work but I can already tell it is one I am going to cherish.
